Our take

Shortlist Omnisend for an email-focused store whose workflows fit its builder: Standard costs less in the three matched workloads checked here. Shortlist Klaviyo when your lifecycle program depends on its event logic, integrations or existing flows. A smaller subscription bill alone may not justify rebuilding a working setup.

Pricing at the same contact and send volumes

Checked 5 October 2026 using both vendors’ live calculators with USD selected. These are ongoing monthly email-plan prices, excluding introductory discounts, SMS, optional products and taxes. Klaviyo’s page redirected to its UK locale but displayed USD; no currency conversion was applied.

Each row assumes the stated number of billable contacts in both systems and the same total monthly email workload, including campaigns and automated messages. The included allowances differ, so both the requested workload and the available capacity are shown. These are planning scenarios, not measured store usage.

Count billable people before comparing the bill

An email subscriber count is not necessarily the billable count. Klaviyo charges for active profiles; suppressing a profile removes it from that active billing population. Omnisend’s billing documentation includes subscribers and non-subscribers, such as customers who provided contact information through an order, and excludes unsubscribed contacts.

Before using the table, reconcile your actual account populations, channel statuses and suppressions. A database showing 5,000 newsletter subscribers may need a higher tier. Never change a person’s consent status merely to make a pricing example fit.

  • Export counts by status rather than comparing the total rows in two contact databases.
  • Budget campaigns plus flow traffic. Ten sends per contact leaves no spare Klaviyo capacity in the sampled tiers.
  • Check the next contact tier and the send-limit setting before a seasonal campaign.

Free plans, extra sends and SMS change the comparison

Both vendors advertise 500 monthly emails and a 250-contact/profile free-plan limit. At that scale, two full-list newsletters consume 500 sends before welcome or recovery messages. Use a free account to inspect your workflow, not as evidence that a growing store will stay free.

Klaviyo offers manual upgrades, automatic upgrades or flexible overages when message capacity is exhausted. Flexible overages add capacity for a one-time fee without permanently moving the base tier. Confirm the fee in your account. Omnisend Standard’s allowance is 12 times its contact tier; Pro advertises unlimited email subject to fair use. Reprice a high-frequency workload rather than extrapolating the table.

For new paid Omnisend subscriptions from 4 May 2026, SMS requires Pro plus a separate SMS Credits Subscription. Legacy arrangements differ, and the vendor schedules Legacy Pro migration for 26 October 2026. Older reviews describing included Pro SMS credits do not establish today’s offer. Klaviyo’s mobile-message estimate also depends on channel, destination and provider fees. Compare recipient countries and message segments separately; the email table is not an SMS quote.

Automation: compare the logic you actually need

Both products support behavior-based workflows. The useful question is whether your required events, conditions and actions are available through your store and other connected apps. A welcome sequence is a different job from routing repeat buyers by order contents, loyalty status and predicted value.

Klaviyo now documents multi-branch splits with up to 20 paths, evaluated in order, with the first matching path winning. Conditions can use events, profile properties, list membership and predictive fields. This feature is rolling out in phases: check your account rather than assuming immediate access. Existing conditional and trigger splits continue to work.

Omnisend’s documented conditional block has Yes/No routes that can rejoin. Additional outcomes require nested blocks. Conditions cover trigger data, contact properties and engagement; up to five rules can be combined. Trigger data reflects the event when it occurred, so a later order-tag change is not automatically available to that trigger-based split. Segment refresh and engagement delays also matter.

  • For a four-language welcome flow, compare a Klaviyo multi-path split, where enabled, with nested Omnisend Yes/No blocks.
  • For post-purchase targeting, check the exact fields supplied by your integration before designing the branches.
  • Preview the same test contacts and expected routes in both builders. We have not measured setup speed, deliverability or revenue performance.

Moving from Klaviyo to Omnisend

Omnisend provides a Klaviyo import tool for contacts and compatible segments. Unsupported segment conditions can fail, including Klaviyo-specific predictive conditions. The tool maps subscription statuses and qualifying consent records, but it is not a continuous real-time sync; reconcile a final update before switching.

Flows are recreated rather than transferred as executable workflows. Templates can be imported, while historic Klaviyo reports and statistics do not move into Omnisend reports. Preserve exports and a clear reporting cutoff.

Omnisend’s free Kickstart service is documented for accounts with more than 250 contacts. Its guide gives 1–2 business days for contact and typically five business days for recreation after access is granted. Treat that as a vendor service estimate, not a guaranteed end-to-end migration time. Agree the included assets and acceptance checks first.

Moving from Omnisend to Klaviyo

The reviewed Klaviyo migration guide describes a general ESP migration rather than a verified one-click Omnisend flow transfer. Plan to import contacts and relevant properties, preserve suppressions, reconnect forms and checkout capture, and recreate your autoresponders as flows. Existing HTML templates can be imported, but their content and tracking still need checking.

Retain engagement history or segment exports for audience selection, then follow the vendor’s sending-ramp guidance. Klaviyo’s guide recommends watching the old provider for new subscribers after forms are switched: continued additions can reveal a missed form. No fixed migration duration was established for this direction.

Estimate migration effort before calling a switch cheaper

Build an inventory of flows, branches, messages, forms, dynamic segments, integrations, consent records and reports. Assign an owner and acceptance check to each. The number of contacts is only one part of the work; a small list can still have a complicated lifecycle program.

Illustrative arithmetic: the 5,000-contact email scenario saves US$19/month on Omnisend Standard at the checked rates. If a switch costs US$300 in internal time and overlapping subscriptions, recovering that cost takes about 16 months (300 ÷ 19), before future price changes or any performance effects. US$300 is an assumed budget, not a vendor quote or measured migration cost.

  • Before cutover: preserve source exports and compare counts, consent states, event fields and segment membership.
  • Test a welcome signup, abandoned checkout and purchase with controlled contacts. Confirm expected entry, exit and exclusion behavior.
  • At cutover: reconcile new contacts, retire duplicate campaigns and flows, and check forms, tracking and preference links.
  • After cutover: monitor failures and delivery metrics; retain a rollback plan and historical reports before closing the old account.

What this comparison establishes

We checked public vendor documentation and used both live pricing calculators on 5 October 2026. The prices are point-in-time estimates for the stated USD email workloads. We did not run paid accounts, migrate a merchant, benchmark deliverability or measure sales lift.

ToolClue has an approved Omnisend referral link and may earn a commission through it. Klaviyo uses its normal vendor link. Commercial relationships do not determine the workload assumptions or the recommendation. Verify your account’s currency, entitlements and final quote before buying.
