Define what the agent should finish
Start with a sample of your recent support work. Separate general questions, product advice, order-status requests and changes to orders or subscriptions. An agent that can read an order is not automatically able to cancel it, change an address or issue a refund.
Choose a bounded initial scope and decide when a person should take over. You need maintained knowledge, reliable store connections and an owner for escalation. A feature list cannot tell you whether those conditions exist in your operation.
Decide whether the helpdesk stays
Gorgias and Tidio are relevant when evaluating AI alongside the support workspace. Gorgias AI Agent is documented for Shopify; its Starter configuration excludes Actions. Tidio’s product recommendations cover Shopify and WooCommerce, while operational Actions depend on configuration.
Yuma works through an existing helpdesk and uses annual resolution bundles. Its support fee does not include the cost of that helpdesk, and Sales AI is a separate subscription. Richpanel and Siena also merit scoping when connected returns and subscription workflows are central. Obtain a package for your actual actions and integrations.
Match the channel and platform, not just the logo
If Amazon or eBay enquiries matter, eDesk describes support coverage for those marketplaces as well as Shopify. That does not establish equal order-writing capabilities across all channels. Re:amaze documents Shopify and WooCommerce product/order data, but its agent is Beta and changes the behavior of several classic bots when enabled.
Alhena documents catalog, inventory and order lookups across several commerce platforms. Equivalent write actions were not established. Record the exact operation you need beside the platform and integration; a general platform badge is only the start of the check.
Compare buying units before comparing prices
Tidio meters Lyro conversations; Zipchat meters outbound AI replies. Re:amaze combines seats with AI resolutions, while eDesk combines seats with automated outcomes. These units describe different things and cannot be converted using a universal multiplier.
Rep’s published traffic-tier examples require your website session volume and chosen Support, Sales or Concierge package. Our researched 80,000-session example is not a verified minimum. Siena’s platform fee similarly excludes usage and potentially implementation. Ask for the complete configuration, not just a headline starting price.
Use a representative pilot
Test common questions and difficult cases: an ambiguous return request, a missing order, an out-of-policy refund and a shopper asking for a person. Use a development or otherwise controlled setup for order changes and define the actions the agent is permitted to take.
Score the outcome against your policy, not how fluent the response sounds. Capture wrong answers, unnecessary escalation, incomplete actions and the context received by a human. Measure the actual billable events generated by the pilot. We have reviewed public documentation; no resolution-rate or speed benchmark is claimed here.
- Confirm supported channels and human handoff.
- Verify read access separately from each write action.
- Record the mandatory plan, seats, usage and existing-helpdesk cost.
- Check whether beta features are acceptable for the first rollout.
Choose for a repeatable support process
For a growing Shopify team, the useful shortlist is the one that fits current systems and resolves a clearly defined set of requests. Expand only after the knowledge, escalation and action rules work. More autonomous features are valuable when you can operate them reliably, not simply because they appear on a pricing page.
